More exploring the isle, and a wonderful lunch with our hosts. It has been a few years since we were here last, there is a lot of catching up to do. We gather at Stackhoull (where Clare and Zack are staying), home of Fiona and Robert Mitchell and also the island’s shop cum post office, which they run. Fiona is also the Fire Chief, amongst other jobs, Robert is also Director of the Fair Isle Electricity Company. Everyone on the isle holds down several jobs - there are only about 55 residents so the multi-job scenario is necessary for the community to function.
The weather forecast comes in looking very foggy for tomorrow - Daniel has arrived in Lerwick safely from his Edinburgh Festival gig, and joined Roderick - but likelihood of planes very poor. Ian rings a skipper friend and books them both in on the Snolda, leaving West Burrafirth for Fair Isle early in the morning. It's a 5-6 hour trip, and not one for poor sailors! But it is a definite bit of transport versus a very indefinite one - so Roderick and Daniel agree to brave it.
