Tuesday 28 September
New music, weaving and film-making
It’s concert day tomorrow so this morning we run through all the pieces the children are involved in to make sure they are confident in what they are performing.
The three pieces they are in are:
their own created piece “Towards the Light”
the Saariaho (2 movements from “Sept Papillons” with additions from the children)
Biber “Sonata Representativa” creating the noises for air, sea and land creatures
There is glorious sunshine and we have beams of light streaming into the Hall. Which feels appropriate!
After lunch we continue with the weaving to form. Chris and Caroline have joined in the weaving.
I bring the children one at a time to the other end of the Hall where we shoot mini-films. Later I chop them together to make a 3-minute film using the music practice from the morning as a soundtrack.
After school I walk the path on the east side of the isle, to catch up with Anne, knitter, historian and curator of the Fair Isle Museum. Anne and her husband Barry hosted me on my first visit to Fair Isle, when I arrived suffering from acute food poisoning and monopolised their second bathroom for 2 nights and 2 days! They were very kind to me and we have been firm friends ever since.
It is a rose-tinted evening - I am distracted by the light casting magic. I take photos until I am called into tea.
Meanwhile Caroline and Katherine have made it to Burkle to buy knits from Fair Isle Made In Fair Isle. They come away with keps, very pleased with purchases.
