Stuart King (clarinet, artistic director)

Stuart founded CHROMA in 1997, and has led the ensemble into lasting relationships, residencies and exciting associations with many internationally recognised organisations, festivals, composers and creative artists that embrace such diverse media as contemporary dance, fine art, opera, electronica, beatbox and film. Stuart works with many other leading contemporary music ensembles and tours internationally. Stuart has premiered over a hundred specially written chamber works.

Stuart also has a profound enthusiasm for education and outreach of all kinds spanning 20 years. Stuart's extensive experience in chamber music and contemporary practice has led to close ties with most of the leading conservatoires in the UK. In addition Stuart is a Mentor at Trinity Laban, is clarinet tutor at Royal Holloway University of London and Head of Woodwind and Percussion at Highgate School. As an animateur, Stuart has devised a wide range of bespoke projects that include primary and secondary schools from the Shetland Isles to Cornwall, the UK's major universities, London homeless shelters, the Norwegian fjords and music academies in the Far East.
