Clare O’Connell (cello)
A founder member of CHROMA, Clare has been able to pursue her love of chamber music for the past twenty years thanks to the inspiration, trust and amazing musicianship of her fellow CHROMA members.
She also works with, amongst others, Lontano, the Harborough Collective, Aurora, Marais Ensemble and London Contemporary Orchestra, but is most devoted to CHROMA, for whom she also curates.
She set up and curates CHROMA’s series of chamber music concerts in Berkhamsted, experimenting with varying instrumental line-ups, and interweaving music poetry and storytelling to add another dimension to the concert going experience. And she has been involved with the commissioning of new music in CHROMA, working closely with such composers as Rolf Hind, Philip Cashian, Michael Zev Gordon, Raymod Yiu, Jo Cutler and Anna Meredith. For her own Berkhamsted series she has commissioned pieces from Leonardo Margutti and Luke Bedford as well as a piece of music and words from Patrick Sherwen and Dominic Shovelton.
She has programmed and produced CHROMA’s first own label album ‘Folk Tales’ which she conceived and recorded with CHROMA artists David Le Page and Ian Watson.
She lives half way up a steep hill in Berkhamsted with her family and is becoming increasingly obsessed with yoga.
